Booking Cathay Pacific First Class with Alaska Airlines Miles

With the farewell of Virgin America, my points converted to Alaska Airlines miles. I now value Alaska Airlines miles as some of the best miles to earn given their sweet spots on international award redemptions! Alaska Airlines offers Cathay Pacific awards from the US to SE Asia for 50,000 in Business and 70,000 in First each way. American charges 70,000 in Business and 110,000 in First Class for the same redemption. British Airways is even worse at 105,000 in Business Class and 140,000 in First Class.

Finding availability for First Class is limited when booking within 90 days of the flight, but if you are flexible it can be found when booking 330+ days out. Business Class is more readily available. The best way to search for Cathay Pacific award availability is by going to British Airways and logging in with a British Airways login. Always search based on the routes Cathay operates on such as LAX-HKG, JFK-HKG, SFO-HKG, etc. When you find availability on the British Airways website, you will then need to call Alaska Airlines to book the award ticket. Alaska Airlines doesn’t allow Cathay Pacific award tickets to be booked online.
