TSA PreCheck Lines Long? Signup for CLEAR!
The secret of TSA PreCheck is out and the lines are much longer in the last year than they were 5+ years ago. Many travelers have taken the time to signup and most haven’t even paid for it. A few premium credit cards such as Chase Sapphire Reserve and AMEX Platinum are including Global Entry as an included benefit. CLEAR is a 3rd party company which operates at select US airports which will allow you to scan your fingerprint and walk directly to the x-ray machines without having to present your ID & boarding pass to a TSA agent. I originally tested CLEAR during a free trial for SPG Platinum members back in 2012, but I couldn’t justify the cost as long TSA PreCheck lines were non-existent in 2012. Now in 2018, it’s worth it if you travel at least once every other month and your home airport is serviced by CLEAR.
I reactivated my membership prior to Christmas at the discounted rate of $99/yr using the Delta promotion. It saved me around 15 minutes at SJC during the peak holiday travel season. If you travel during off-peak times then CLEAR might not save you any time, but it’s handy to have just in case.
