United MileagePlus Award Charts to Disappear

United announced a few weeks ago that they will be eliminating award charts and move to a variable pricing method later this year. This is horrible news as they follow the trend set by Delta. If you have United miles and have been saving for a specific award ticket, I would recommend to redeem them prior to November 15, 2019. They will most likely cost more miles after this change.

“For travel on or after November 15, we will no longer publish an award chart listing the set amount of miles needed for award flights. Award pricing will now fluctuate based on a variety of factors, including demand. Additionally, starting November 15, we will no longer charge a fee of up to $75 for award flights booked within 21 days of departure.”

The only positive news is that the close-in booking fees are being eliminated which are helping for last minute award bookings, but they might just charge more miles to offset this reduction in fees.

A fellow travel blogger has taken a screenshot of every United award chart so you can reference it even after United takes them down so you have a baseline idea of how much the award ticket should cost.
