Apple iPhone 7 Plus & Portrait Mode – “DSLR” Effect

While traveling, I take photos exclusively using my iPhone (exception GoPro). Apple introduced the iPhone 7 Plus this past September and the dual lens camera sold me. It created a Digital SLR effect by combining the photos from each lens (2x telephoto and wide-angle). I have always carried the standard size iPhone but I couldn’t resist given that I take so many photos. After using my iPhone 7 Plus, I find that having the option for 2x optical zoom has made the camera much more valuable. While traveling and touring around you don’t always have the best vantage point. The optical zoom allows you to still get a crisp photo from a distance. The Portrait Mode has been handy from time to time but I honestly haven’t used it as much as I thought I would. I have been able to capture some cool photos but only about 0.5% of the time I use this mode. Here are some side-by-side examples showing the differences…
